Taking a dig at Shiv Sena, Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar on Thursday said that 10 auditors were arrested in the BMC road scam and the next in line would be those who claimed “Karun dakhawala” (We did it), which was the slogan used by the Shiv Sena during the 2012 BMC election that claimed it had fulfilled its poll promises.
After the 10 third party auditors’ arrest by the police for allegedly approving fudged bills presented by the contractors of road repair works, Mr Shelar gave the full credit to his party for exposing the issue. He further indicated that some leaders of Shiv Sena, which is the principal ruling party in the BMC, might face arrests in connection with the alleged scam.
Though the BJP and the Sena are sharing power at the Centre, in the state as well as the BMC, both the parties have been taking on each other as they are preparing to fight next year’s BMC elections separately. The BJP has made the alleged road repairs a major issue to embarrass the Sena.
Mr Shelar said that the BJP has raised the issue because public money was misused in the shoddy road repair works and common people faced the hardships because of bad condition of roads.
“The BJP has constantly raised this issue in the state legislature, BMC house and even on the streets. It is because of the BJP that now 10 auditors have been arrested. Subsequently, some contractors will also go to jail and even those who said “Karun dakhawala” can be sent to jail,” Mr Shelar said.
