Shiv Sena warns BJP against ‘god’ like praise for Modi

Taking a dig at the BJP, Shiv Sena on Tuesday cautioned its senior leaders for their extravagant praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by portraying him as a “God”. The party stated that such remarks might put the PM in trouble.
The Sena has also warned the BJP that praise for Mr Modi should not backfire like their earlier ‘India Shining’ campaign, which had fallen flat on its face. The comment came in after Union minister Venkaiah Naidu recently sang his paeans to the Prime Minister calling him as “God’s gift to India”. Mr Naidu’s ministerial colleague Radha Mohan Singh also used a similar description while praising the PM.
“Senior BJP leaders are issuing statements that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an ‘avatar’ of God. Since he has been made a God, there is bound to be a temple and festivals in his name. A Ram temple may not be constructed in Ayodhya but there will be ‘shlokas’ chanted in the name of this new God,” the Sena said in its mouthpiece Saamana.
It has reminded the ally that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had spent a lot of money on advertisements, but eventually lost power after the 1975-77 Emergency.
It further stated, “Mr Modi is an efficient leader and he has daring to change the face of the nation. But is this the right time to show success of the Modi government We wish that this should not backfire like the India Shining campaign. The Modi government is for five years and hence the praise will be suitable only after completion of the tenure.”
Criticising the government for its failure to control drought, the Sena said that it cannot blame the previous Congress government. “Thirty-three per cent of the country is reeling under drought and areas like Marathwada appear like burial grounds. Government schemes have not reached there even in two years. This cannot be called a failure of the previous government,” it added.
