Shiv Sena and BJP have decided to contest eight seats of the Legislative Council in alliance while Congress and NCP are also set to contest the polls together.

Shiv Sena and BJP have decided to contest eight seats of the Legislative Council in alliance while Congress and NCP are also set to contest the polls together. The Sena is likely to contest Akola, Mumbai and Nagpur and BJP will contest Solapur, Dhule, Kolhapur, Nagpur and Ahmednagar.

A meeting between Shiv Sena and BJP leaders was held in Nagpur this evening, in which it was decided to face the polls together and distributed seats. Shiv Sena has a sitting MLA in Akola and Mumbai. Though there were reports the BJP might field a candidate for Mumbai, it was decided to give it to the Sena, sources in the party said. In another development, the Sena might give up its claim on the Nagpur seat. “The BJP has good strength in Nagpur region and hence the swapping would be done,” a Sena leader said.

Another meeting was held between the Congress and NCP, which resolved a conflict between the parties about a few seats. Congress wanted to keep both Solapur and Kolhapur, but will have to give up on either of them. NCP is likely to contest Kolhapur, Akola-Washim and Congress Mumbai, Nagpur Solapur and Dhule. The Congress-NCP leaders

will meet on Monday morning again to discuss seat distribution. Polling for the eight seats will be held on December 27. The term of the following members ends on January 1, 2016: Amrish Patel (Dhule-Nandurbar), Mahadev Mahadik (Kolhapur), Rajendra Mulak (Nagpur) and Bhai Jagtap (Mumbai), who are from the Congress.
