While the BJP is celebrating completion of two years of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, its ally Shiv Sena is not convinced by the Modi government’s claims of achievements. The Sena on Thursday alleged that the government has failed to rein in inflation and curb cross-border terrorism, and said its schemes started during this period did not reach the people.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led party also slammed the BJP for not fulfilling poll promises, which included bringing back black money, curbing corruption and wiping out terrorism.

Commenting on PM’s frequent foreign tours, the Sena said he has to first decide if his residence was within the country or outside.

Reviewing the work done by the Central government in the last two years, the Sena said that only three schemes of the 40 launched have reached the people. The previous government was running the same schemes under different names which eventually got embroiled in corruption, the Sena in its editorial Saamana said.

“Mr Modi made people dream of achhe din. He assured them he would bring back black money and deposit Rs 10-11 lakh in every bank account. However, the promise has not been fulfilled. On the other hand, numbers of farmer suicides in two years has gone up to lakhs,” the Sena said on Thursday. Sena was referring to Modi’s pre-poll promise of getting back black money from foreign banks and depositing it in every individual’s account.

While no big corruption scandals were unearthed in the last two years, the government “failed” to arrest inflation, bring solace to people reeling under the impact of price rise and end distress in the farm sector, the party said.

Attacking the government for holding talks with Pakistan, the Sena said terrorist attacks on Indian territory still continued unabated. “Terrorist activities by Pakistanis in Kashmir has not stopped. Our jawans are dying fighting Naxalites and terrorists, and we are still talking with them,” the editorial said.

Also taking a jibe at the NDA for its poor performance in some of the recent state polls, the Sena said that taking stock of the work done by the Modi government was unnecessary because people of Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala had already evaluated it in their own way.
