In a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Desai from Shiv Sena, has requested the CM to penalise all developers in the city who have re-branded areas like Parel, Andheri and Kalanagar as Upper Worli, Upper Juhu and BKC Annex, respectively, by stopping their constructions. Mr Desai has also written about some projects in Wadala being sold as New Cuffe Parade and some in Antop Hill being sold as properties in New Wadala.

“To us, all parts of the city are equal, to the Constitution, legislators and our municipal corporation so why allow developers to re-name or re-tag our city, only to cheat buyers ” wrote Mr Desai in his letter addressed to Mr Fadnavis.

“They are here to market their schemes, which they must, but not change their names. I urge you to bar constructions of such developers in the city till they do not honour the original name of the areas and their heritage,” Mr Desai further wrote.

The Sena MP wrote the letter to Mr Fadnavis in the wake of leading developers such as DB Realty, Rustomjee Builders, Kanakia Group, Radius Developers and Adarsh Buildestate Limited (ABL) Group selling their luxury 3 and 4 BHK housing inventory real estate projects located on the periphery of BKC as properties in BKC Annexure or BKC Annex.

“This is not only illegal as these developers have no right to change the areas’ names but also cheats buyers in terms of localities, rates of flats and fake marketing,” the letter further said. “

Furthermore, by renaming these areas, these developers are not only belittling the renamed areas and creating animosity between people in various areas, but also insulting those age-old areas that are important to the city’s history and heritage. Hence, they cannot be allowed to create class divide and animosity in the city, nor can they be allowed to create an inferiority complex.”
