Shiv Sena to hold Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park

The Shiv Sena has confirmed the Shivaji Park ground in Dadar for its annual Dussehra rally to be held on October 11. A Sena leader also said that party chief Uddhav Thackeray is expected to slam the state government over various decisions, while lauding the good work done by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), keeping the upcoming civic elections in mind.
The Dussehra Melava of the Sena has been held every year since the party’s formation in 1966. The late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray had started the rally. But nearly six decades ago, after Shivaji Park was declared as a silent zone, the party had to rush to the court every time it wanted to hold the rally.
The rally, a 46-year-old tradition, is so important for the party that the late Bal Thackeray had addressed Sainiks through video-conferencing for the last time at the rally in 2012, and Aaditya Thackeray had used it as the launch pad for the Yuva Sena in 2010.
“Since it has stopped raining, the Sena’s annual Dussehra rally will be held at Shivaji Park. Currently, water is being removed from the ground and it is being readied to accommodate thousands of party workers, who are expected to attend the rally and listen to (Sena chief) Uddhavji’s plans for the party in the future,” said Shiv Sena MLC Anil Parab.
The Sena leader said that Uddhav Thackeray is likely to use the event to sound the poll bugle for the upcoming civic elections. “The focus of this year’s speech will be the upcoming BMC polls, which are very important for the party. Uddhavji will try to infuse enthusiasm in the party cadres so that they give their everything to win the polls,” Mr Parab said.
He added: “It will be important for us to be prepared in case there is no pre-poll alliance with the BJP.”
