From abandoning responsibility for ensuring that nullah desilting work is completed this monsoon, the Shiv Sena has gone on to announce that it has faith in its administration and has observed that the BMC is working diligently to avoid flooding this year.

Speaking at a visit to inspect the city’s nullah desilting work, Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said the Sena would continue to pressurise the administration to work harder at completing the desilting work. He also said that contrary to reports, the BJP was not bent on showcasing the Sena in bad light, as the parties have been coalition partners for the past two decades.

Extending support to the administration, the Sena took a tour of the major nullahs in the city along with municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta himself.

Mr Thackeray visited the Irla nullah in Juhu, Mogra nullah near Link Road, and Oshiwara river in Jogeshwari, along with MLA Sunil Prabhu, leader of the House in the BMC Trushna Vishwasrao, mayor Snehal Ambekar, and Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray.

Mr Thackeray said, “We are banking on steady rain and cooperation from Mumbaikars for a flood-free monsoon season. Only the arrival of rains will be able to tell if the desilting work is satisfactory.”

Meanwhile, the Opposition took a tour to inspect the newly-commissioned Britannia pumping station built to relieve flooding in the Hindmata area of Dadar.
