The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday told the special court that it would file a supplementary chargesheet against former media baron Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani Mukerjea in the Sheena Bora murder case on Friday. The chargesheet may include the financial statements of Peter.
“We will file the final report on Friday,” CBI prosecutor Bharat Badami told the special CBI court Judge H.S. Mahajan.
Last week, the agency had told the Bombay high court that it was planning to file supplementary chargesheet in the case.
Meanwhile, the court also suggested a timeline for the trial. Judge Mahajan said that on Friday along with the filing of the chargesheet, if possible, the CBI could begin with the arguments on framing of charges.
“The charges can be framed by next week; the entire November month will be needed for complying with formalities and we can start the trial by the first week of December,” the court said.
Prime accused Indrani, her former driver Shyam Rai and her former husband Sanjiv Khanna have been implicated in the murder of Sheena (24), Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship. The murder was allegedly executed by strangling her to death inside a car in April 2012. Three of the accused were arrested in August last year, while the fourth, Peter was arrested in November.
According to the CBI, Peter was part of the murder conspiracy. Sheena’s body was found in a forest in Raigad district. The crime, which came to light in August, last year, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings.
Initially, the Mumbai crime branch was investigating this matter but the state government requested the CBI to investigate it further after which it arrested Peter and filed a chargesheet against him.
