Sheena Bora murder case: CBI gets more time to reply on Rai plea
The special CBI court on Tuesday granted further time till June 6 to CBI to file its reply on the application filed by Shyamwar Rai expressing his desire to turn approver in the Sheena Bora murder case. The CBI was supposed to file its reply on Tuesday but the investigating officer in the case sought further time and hence the hearing was deferred.
Rai, on May 11 had personally told the special CBI judge H.S. Mahajan that he wants to become an approver in the case and wanted to tell the truth about the murder because of “repentance”. He had also told the court that he knew details of the crime because he was part of it and that Sheena was killed by strangulation.
Following this development the court had asked the CBI to file its reply on Rai’s application if the agency wished to accept Rai’s proposal to turn approver. The court had asked the CBI to file its reply by May 17, but the CBI officer sought more time to file its say and the judge granted it time till June 6.
Earlier, Rai had written a two-page letter to the court seeking pardon in the case, following which the judge had called Rai to the witness box and sought to know if the letter was indeed written by him and the reason why he wanted to admit his guilt.
Rai replied that he wanted to tell the truth out of repentance. Sheena’s murder came to light after Rai was picked up in connection with an illegal arms case and later spilled the beans.
