Commuters were in for a pleasant surprise on Sunday when Central Railway (CR) began services at the swanky, new Seawoods station. Currently, only services to Panvel have been shifted to the new station and officials said services to CST too would soon begin from here.
The new Seawoods station is the result of the Railways’ plan to build a new line from Seawoods to Uran where the Navi Mumbai airport has also been planned. Seawoods is a model station in Mumbai as agencies like City Industrial Development and Corporation along with Larsen and Toubro (L&T) have come together not only to build platforms and infrastructure directly related to train services but also the multi-complex right next to it which is the first of its kind in the city.
Apurva Varadharajan (25), a graphic designer and resident of Seawoods who travels from Seawoods to Panvel for work, said that she was pleasantly surprised on Monday morning when she found out that the trains are running from a new platform, “When I saw the new station, I was amazed. There are fire extinguishers and a big lamp post,” she said.
Chief public relations officer Narendra Patil said, “We will see trains run to CST as the railway only needs another block to make the connection.”
