A 27-year-old cleaner of a school bus has been arrested for allegedly molesting a three-year-old girl in Goregaon area.
Identified as Prashant Namdev Modak, the accused on Thursday was produced in court and remanded in police custody. Further investigation is on and the police is checking if Modak had molested other girls in past too.
According to officials, the complainant, a resident of Goregaon area, filed the police complaint on July 1 at the Dindoshi police station. In her complaint, the complainant said her daughter was studying in a private school, which had hired a bus to drop and pick up the students every day.
The woman said that since the past three to four days her daughter was complaining about severe pain in her private parts. When she checked it, she found that someone had sexually abused her.
Following her complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
During investigation, when the police checked CCTV footage of the school they realised that Modak had been missing for the last two days.
Officials started a search for him and found out that his cell phone was switched off and the residential address he had given in the school was bogus.
However, the police later found out his whereabouts and arrested him from his residence in Sawantwadi area of Sindhudurg district. The girl has been sent for a medical test and her reports are yet to arrive.
