Education minister Vinod Tawde announced this in the state Legislative Council on Monday. He said, “It was found that there are 74,971 out-of-school kids in the state in a survey carried out in the month of January. Non-government organisations and students of National Service Scheme had participated in the survey.”

A couple of surveys will be carried out to ascertain the number of out-of-school kids in the state. Following this, the ‘Show out-of-school kids and earn Rs 1,000’ drive will be implemented. The prize money for the scheme will be provided from the funds of the collector, taluka official and the minister, he added.

The issue was raised in the council by NCP legislator Prakash Gajbhiye, who said that there were lot of anomalies in the state government’s survey and alleged that the number of out-of-school children in the state exceeded eight lakh.
