Sanjeev Khanna’s plea is rejected by court

A special CBI court in Mumbai on Friday rejected an application filed by Indrani Mukerjea’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna seeking a copy of the confession given by co-accused Shyamwar Rai in the Sheena Bora murder case.

Khanna, through his lawyer Shreyansh Mithare said in his application that he did not get a copy of Rai’s confession. He requested the court that he should be provided with the same.

On Tuesday CBI had informed the court that it has already supplied the documents in the court on which it was relying. Rai’s statement is not part of the chargesheet.

Since Rai’s statement is not part of chargesheet and in view of what CBI has stated before the court, it is implied that the investigation agency will not rely on it.

Apparently Rai had written to the court from jail that he wanted to say something about this case and hence, his statement under section 164 of CrPC was recorded by a magistrate. However, his statement did not find place in the chargesheet and Khanna’s lawyer had sought copy of it.

It was because of Rai that the Sheena murder case came to light. The Mumbai police had arrested Rai in an illegal arms case and during investigation he had told the police about the murder of Sheena.

Later the police had exhumed the remains of a body from Raigad forest and said that digital super imposition of the profile of Sheena had matched with the skull recovered from the forest.

Indrani Mukerjea and her husband Peter have also been arrested in connection with Sheena’s murder and all are in judicial custody.
