In support of some its members who have been named as accused in the murder of rationalists Dr Narendra Dabholkar and comrade Govind Pansare, pro-Hindutva outfit Sanatan Sanstha members came out on the streets to mark their protest on Sunday.
The rally was held a day after Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samittee protested for justice in the Dabholkar murder case.
Sanatan members Virendra Tawade and Samir Gaikwad were arrested in connection with the murder of Dabholkar and Pansare, respectively. Proclaiming the innocence of its members at the rally, a Sanatan release stated, “Merely due to the pressure exerted by progressive elements, Sanatan’s seekers are being implicated needlessly, and their future is being ruined. Despite the demand to proceed with the court case of Samir Gaikwad, who is under arrest, the case is not being heard.”
The release stated: “At least 73 days have passed since Dr Tawade of Sanatan Sanstha was arrested. Still, the investigating agency was not able to unearth any solid evidence against him. Similarly, the media has also published baseless news. Even in the case of the killing of Pansare, many excuses are being put forth by Pansare’s family members to oppose the continuation of court proceedings against Samir Gaikwad. Is it a conspiracy to needlessly incarcerate innocent seekers of Sanatan Sanstha ”
Police officers said the Sanstha had the necessary permission to hold the rally. “Sanatan Sanstha wanted to hold the rally on August 20 when Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti had also sought permission to protest. In order to avoid a clash between the two, we told Sanatan to conduct its rally on Sunday,” an officer added.
