RR Patil’s wdow seeks protection for family
Former Maharashtra home minister, late R.R. Patil’s widow, on Friday sought police protection for her family. Suman Patil, who is the MLA from Tasgaon constituency, raised a point of propriety in the Legislative Assembly regarding threat to her family by criminal elements.
Ms Patil was elected as MLA in April this year in a by-election, which was necessitated following the death of sitting legislator and former deputy chief minister R.R. Patil in February.
Though she did not take any names, Ms Patil said “some elected representatives with criminal mentality” have been targeting her and her family.
“In last few months, these people have made life of common people miserable in Tasgaon. They are terrorising people by taking law in their hand,”
Ms Patil said in the Assembly. She said that her family has also become a target of these people.
“There were elections of market committee about six months ago. They attacked me and members of my family outside the polling centre,” Ms Patil said.
“They even ransacked the polling centre. This went on for nearly two hours in the presence of police,” she added.
Demanding action against these people, she said that “these elected representatives” much be kept in check and the government should ensure they respect the rule of law.
