Deceased Hema Upadhyay’s family announces Rs 1 lakh reward for main accused
Nearly 40 days have passed since artist Hema Upadhyay and her advocate Haresh Bhambani were brutally murdered. The deceased Hema’s family has decided to put a reward on Vidhyadhar, the main accused in this Kandivali double murder case.
The family has placed a few advertisements and is approaching newspapers in Uttar Pradesh and south India. Family friend, Sanjeev Menon, who is presenting Hema’s side in court, said, “From our side, we have announced a reward of '1 lakh and we are hoping that after announcing the prize money, if someone notices him (Vidhyadhar), they will inform us. For this, I have published a few pictures of Vidhyadhar and within two days, we will try to get these pictures published in newspapers of UP and south India.”
Meanwhile, police officials are keeping a close eye on Vidhyadhar’s family but he hasn’t contacted anyone since the past 20 days. Officials have hired a few local sources in UP, Rajasthan and the Nepal border as police teams that had gone in search of the accused came back empty handed. Since Monday, officials are again calling family and friends of the deceased Hema and accused Chintan Upadhyay.
On January 25, Chintan, along with all other accused, will be produced in court and according to police officials, as per the rule of 90 days of JC, they will again be remanded to judicial custody. However, by that time, police will have to prepare the chargesheet for which they are again speaking to a few artists who were mutual friends of the couple.
The double murder came to light after the bodies of Hema and Haresh were found stuffed in two boxes in a drain in suburban Kandivali on December 11. On December 22, police arrested Hema’s husband, Chintan, while four others along with Chintan are in judicial custody.
