Resident doctors to continue stir
Despite holding fresh talks with medical education minister Vinod Tawde on Wednesday at Vidhan Bhavan, residents doctor of JJ Hospital have decided to continue with their strike. The doctors also held a candle march on the premises of the hospital demanding transfer of dean Dr T.P. Lahane and Dr Ragini Parikh “We haven’t called off our strike as our demands have not been met. The meeting with the minister was not fruitful as he has not agreed to any of our demands. We will continue the strike further,” Dr Sagar Mundada, MARD leader said. BJP leader Shaina NC had also led a delegation of the residents’ doctors to Mr Tawde to discuss the same issue on Monday which was also a failure.
Mr Tawde has agreed to some of their demands. “The minister said that Dr Ragini Parekh will go on leave. Also, the minister ensured that the residents’ doctors will not be victimised after the strike. They will get different examiners and postings in other medical colleges. The post graduate students will get a different guide if they want one. Also, the students will be given opportunity to practise surgery as per the norms,” an official from the minister’s office said.
