Registration woes for Mumbai University pupils continue
The registration woes of students wanting to take admission to the affiliated colleges of the University of Mumbai have not eased as the pre-admission online registration (PAOR) portal continues to pose access problems for the applicants. Despite the problems the university has said that it has received 2.6 lakh applications and around 1.3 lakh registrations have been completed. Meanwhile, the university has issued the admission schedule for its affiliated colleges and admissions for the open quota will start from June 25.
According to a student from Sion, though the PAOR started on June 14, after spending long hours trying to fill up the application form, he had managed to submit the form at 4 am on Thursday. “The process of getting the permanent registration number (PRN) has been a tedious one and I never imagined that it would be such a problem. I was told by some friends that the university portal was functioning more smoothly at night and hence I did just that and managed to register myself,” said the student.
Many students and their parents faced similar problems and finally out of frustration decided to approach the university. In fact, an official from Mantralaya also turned up at the university at Fort to get the registration done.
Sources in the university, meanwhile, said it had been trying to improve the PAOR process by asking the vendor to increase the servers for the process and the number had been increased to 17 to 28 and the problems of the students had been reduced to some extent. “Colleges admitting in-house students and through minority quota have been asked to admit students without the PRN number and update it as and when the student is able to register,” said the source.
“The admission schedule has been issued keeping in mind the problems being faced by students. Admissions to minority quota and in-house admissions will be done till June 24 after which admissions for open category will start from June 25.
Data released by the office of the deputy director of education that is conducting online admission for FYJC shows that applications of around 2.13 lakh students have already been confirmed and approved and around 2.01 lakh students out of them have already confirmed the option forms too. With the FYJC online registration process to be closed by June 17, there is a last minute rush of students to complete the formalities. Despite the high number of students yet to complete the process of confirming their application and option form, the site fyjc.org has not given any problems to the students. According to officials from the deputy director’s office, there will be no shortage of seats and each and every student will get a seat.
