Kulbushan Jadhav, who was arrested on Thursday by Pakistani agencies on the charges of being a RAW agent, is apparently a resident of Silver Oak Society in Powai’s Hiranandani area. Building residents have tightened the security of the building and no outsiders are allowed to enter it. According to sources, no one from the police or government had come to meet the Jadhav family, who only received family members so far.
According to Pakistan agencies, Jadhav had entered Pakistan illegally and was arrested while doing subversive activities. According to locals, he is a Commander-rank officer in the Indian Navy. His father and uncle were in the police service and retired few years ago.
Near his house in Hiranandani, building residents have called a special unit of security guards so that no one bothers the family. A few society members said on condition of anonymity that the Jadhavs have been living in Hiranandani for more than 15 years. “The family is very decent and we are supporting them in our way. No one wants to bother them at all,” a resident said.
Sources said that his father is a retired ACP and his uncle was retired senior PI. However many people said they did not know Kulbhushan was a Powai resident till they saw news reports about his arrest.
On the arrest of Jadhav, the ministry of external affairs said on Friday that he had no link with the government since his retirement from the Indian Navy. “We have sought consular access to him. India has no interest in interfering in internal matters of any country and firmly believes that a stable and peaceful Pakistan is in the interest of all in the region,” the official statement said.
According to reports, Jadhav often carries cargo to and from Iranian ports bordering Pakistan and has nothing to do with India’s external Intelligence agency, government sources said on Saturday. They said there was no proof that the retired navy officer, who owns a cargo business in Iran, was arrested in Balochistan as claimed by Pakistan.
