Ramdas Athavale slams HC judge’s remarks on reservation
The Republican party of India (RPI) leader Ramdas Athavale on Saturday slammed the anti-reservation remarks made by Gujarat high court judge J.P. Pardiwala and said he would demand the suspension of the judge in the next Rajya Sabha session.
“No one has the right to comment against the constitutional provision of reservation, and how can a judge with such mentality give justice to the people belonging to backward communities,” he said.
Pardiwala, while declining to drop the charge of sedition against Patel quota stir leader Hardik Patel, had recently said, “If I am asked by anyone to name two things which have destroyed this country or rather has not allowed the country to progress in the right direction, then the same is reservation and corruption.”
“It is very shameful for any citizen of this country to ask for reservation after years of independence. When our Constitution was framed, it was understood that reservation would remain for a period of 10 years, but unfortunately it has continued even after 65 years of independence,” he had reportedly said in his order.
Mr Athavale also said he would visit flood-hit Chennai in order to help the victims. “I am going to visit Chennai to review the situation there. We want to help the victims so that they can start their routine life,” he said. The recent flood in Chennai has killed more than 300 people and communication was cut off for some days, making it hard to help those in need.
