Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray’s ongoing tour of the drought-hit Marathwada region has invited the wrath of Opposition parties after he attended three court hearings during the tour.

Mr Thackeray is on a 10-day tour of Marathwada, which he commenced on Tuesday. He began his tour on Tuesday night and left by Latur Express from Mumbai CST and will visit Beed, Latur, Osmanabad, Nanded and Aurangabad during his tour, which will last till April 29.

On Wednesday morning, he attended the hearing of cases at Paranda and Osmanabad courts. It was connection with cases registered against him over stone-pelting incidents in 2008. Mr Thackeray also attended the Nilanga court in Latur district, granted him bail on a personal bond of '15,000 on Wednesday but also imposed a fine of '200.

Criticising Mr Thackeray for attending court hearings during his tour, the Congress said the tour is a ‘show’. “Actually he has to attend court cases and that’s why he chose the dates adjacent to his court hearing dates,” alleged Sachin Sawant, Congress spokesperson.

NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik questioned whether Mr Thackeray understanding of droughts. “Does he have knowledge of the crops that are grown in agriculture land in Marathwada region He is a good event manager and nothing else,” said Mr Malik.

Mr Thackeray had earlier visited Marathwada in 2014. On Thursday, he reviewed the work to increase depth of wells by MNS workers in Naldurga village in Latur district. MNS has also provided water tanks to provide drinking water and also began construction of cement dams in Latur districts.
