Rahul Raj Singh’s pre-arrest bail extended

The Bombay high court on Monday deferred hearing arguments on anticipatory bail application of film producer Rahul Raj Singh and also extended interim relief from arrest granted to him till April 25.

The Bombay high court on Monday deferred hearing arguments on anticipatory bail application of film producer Rahul Raj Singh and also extended interim relief from arrest granted to him till April 25. This was done as the government sought time to appoint a special public prosecutor in actress Pratyusha Banerjee’s suicide case.

When the pre-arrest bail plea of Rahul Raj came up for hearing before Justice Mirdula Bhatkar, public prosecutor Usha Kejriwal submitted a letter in the court and requested the judge to defer the matter for a few days. This letter was sent by under secretary of Law and Judiciary Department requesting time to appoint special public prosecutor in the case.

On this request, Justice Bhatkar first said she was deferring the matter till June 20. However Ms Kejriwal requested the court not to adjourn it for such a long time and appealed the court to keep it on April 25 for hearing.

Initially, the judge said the court has matters listed for hearing and it would be difficult to give any earlier date, but when the government pleader insisted the court posted this matter for hearing on April 25. The judge also extended interim relief granted to Rahul Raj and conditions are also not changed, which means he will be required to attend the police station daily between 11 pm and 1 pm.

The prosecution’s case is that the day when Pratyusha allegedly committed suicide, the applicant was with her till 3 pm. It is also alleged that the accused used to harass her, demand money from her, take out money from her account and assault her. It is being alleged the actress committed suicide over these matters.
