A special Economic Offences Wing (EOW) court on Thursday allowed World Billiards champion Michael Ferreira, facing charges of money laundering in the multi-crore QNet scam case, to surrender on Friday.
On Thursday around 4.45 pm, Ferreira’s lawyer Abad Ponda informed the court that his client would be surrendering on Friday. Ferreira had been granted relief from arrest till September 29. Objecting to the statement, special public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat said the court was assured on Wednesday that Ferreira would surrender on Thursday. As per the court’s instructions, the EOW officers were waiting in the courtroom since 11 am on Thursday to arrest him, he added.
However, judge D.P. Surana said the agency had given an undertaking it would not take coercive action against Ferreira till September 29 and he can surrender on September 30.
