An 18-year-old girl and a 24-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding Pune-Lonavala train early on Tuesday.
An 18-year-old girl and a 24-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding Pune-Lonavala train early on Tuesday.
The deceased, Rajani Singh and Suraj Tripathi, had ended their lives at a point that lies between Kasarwadi and Pimpri, according to the police. The railway police rushed the duo to a hospital, but they were declared dead.
The police is examining their possible motives and verifying if the deceased were in a relationship and took the extreme step in the face of parental opposition.
Singh was a resident of Moshi, Jadhavwadi and a first year student of Bachelors in Computer Application in a local college in Pimpri. Tripathi, an Uttar Pradesh native, had been staying in Navi Mumbai. He was in search of job. His brother-in-law, Amol Pande, had filed a missing complaint in the Kharghar police station on Sunday.
After post-mortem at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri, the bodies were given to the respective families.
“The parents of the girl approached the Nigdi Police station on Monday saying their daughter has gone missing. However they did not lodge an official complaint,” said Vijaykumar Palsure, inspector, Nigdi.
According to the police, when the family came to receive the body of the girl, they refused to talk the reason behind her committing suicide. They did not answer whether their daughter was in relationship with the deceased youth.
