The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will provide 230 hectares of land to set up a Japanese industrial park near Pune.
According to MIDC officials, out of the 946.70-hectare area notified for the additional Supa Parner industrial area, 230 hectares has been reserved for Japanese industries. On this area, amenities like a Japanese garden, Japanese restaurants, hospitals, exhibition centres, truck terminus will be made available.
Shiv Sena MLC Neelam Gorhe had raised the issue in the Legislative Council asking about measures taken by the state to provide remuneration and employment to farmers and locals, whose land has been acquired for the project.
Replying to Ms Gorhe, industries minister Subhash Desai said that the MIDC would set up a cluster for various Japanese companies at Supa near Pune-Nagar Road. “For the additional Supa Parner industrial area, the district collector, in discussion with concerned stakeholders, has fixed a remuneration of Rs 20 lakh per hectare. According to the MIDC policy, the stakeholders — apart from compensation — are also provided 15 per cent land returns and also a job to a person from project-affected family at the company in that industrial area as per the necessary educational qualification.”
According to state officials, the Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro), an official body for promotion of trade and investment, and the MIDC have already signed a MoU to set up an exclusive industrial park for Japanese companies at Supa. To date, India is home to 962 Japanese companies across 1,804 locations, including 76 in Pune.
