The spectre of the Pulgaon inferno continues to haunt authorities, what with dispatch of mortal remains to respective places of origin and search and identification of dead bodies still underway.

On Friday, mortal remains of DSC personnel and firemen arrived at Nagpur for further movement to respective native places via New Delhi, informed defence sources from CAD. Simultaneously, a video conference with victims of the incident with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis took place where the latter announced that the kin of the dead would get a compensation of Rs 5 lakh while the injured would get Rs 1 lakh. The widow of a fire fighter who lost his life while answering the call of duty, addressed the CM on the occasion and held that her husband’s sacrifice was supreme.

According to defence sources, on Friday, the mortal remains of Sep Satish DSC were sent to Rewari (Haryana); Sep Ramchander DSC to Mahendergarh (Haryana); Navjot Singh fireman to Mahendergarh (Haryana); D.K. Yadav fireman to Baliya (UP); Amit Puniya fireman to Panipat (Haryana); and Krishna Kumar fireman to Palwal (Haryana).

During the video conference, the CM termed the deceased as martyrs and said the country was proud of them. He also said the compensation amount had been given to local authorities and they would soon distribute it. He added 13 families of martyrs had received the amount and the families of those who were yet to be identified would also get help.
