PTAs to discuss education issues
Various parents organisations from across the country have decided to have a nationwide meet against the commercialisation of education and the exploitation of parents and students by school and college managements by charging exorbitant fees. The meeting will also discuss other issues and solutions to problems and will submit the findings to the Central government.
Speaking about the meeting to be held on March 19 and 20 at Delhi, Jayant Jain, president of Forum for Fairness in Education and NGO in Mumbai said, “Parents’ organisations and parents from throughout India (22 states, 39 cities) protesting against exorbitant fee hike and collection of unjustified fees have come together and are organising an All India Parents meet at New Delhi on March 19-20 to decide about a nationwide protest and filing a joint PIL in the Supreme Court to stop commercialisation of education and profiteering in schools.”
He added that the agenda included demands like the Central government should enact a national law on lines of the Allahabad high court judgment mandating all public servants to send their children to public funded schools. The Central government should also enact a central law regulating fee and other charges in unaided private schools in the country. Such law should also give minimum of 50 representation to the parents and teachers in the managing committee of such unaided private schools. The meeting will also discuss one-nation-one-syllabus to standardise education across the country and formation of district-wise redressal of grievance system and taking action against schools misleading parents in the name of international boards.
“Nearly 15 organisations have confirmed their participation and more are expected to confirm soon. There will be advocates from Supreme Court who will also share their inputs and guide the parents regarding the PIL,” said Mr Jain.
