The psychological assessment report of prime accused in Comrade Govind Pansare’s killing, Sameer Gaikwad, has concluded that he is deceptive even as the latter claimed he was jokingly speaking about killing the communist leader and journalist Nikhil Wagle.

The report, attached with a chargesheet, filed in a Kolhapur local court, said that the accused was “very careful” during the assessment and tried to “evade information” on critical issues. Though the Sanatan Sanstha has denied the assessment, the police has termed it as one of the vital evidences in the case. Asked about his telephonic conversation with another Sanatan member Anjali, Mr Gaikwad said it was a joke he made about killing Comrade Pansare and Mr Wagle. “I spoke to her jokingly. I had no intentions to kill Mr Pansare and Mr Wagle,” he said.

According to the Forensic Psychological Assessment report dated September 22, 2015, “It was observed that Mr Gaikwad’s expressions were unmatched with his answers. He denied knowledge and involvement in the case under reference. He felt flustered by the questioning and interview. His uneasiness during the assessment disclosed his desire to wind up the interview at the earliest. It seems that his behaviour and statements were controlled and careful in relation to providing information throughout the assessment.”

On Mr Gaikwad’s answers related to the murder, the psychological assessment report said, “When he was asked about probable reasons behind the murder of Mr Pansare, he stated negatively. He always tried to escape from the relevant questions. Anxiousness and restlessness were observed from his behaviour. He was hesitating during the conversation. It appears that he provided unusual information and had no willingness to give information about the case under reference.”

On being asked about his involvement in the murder of Mr Pansare, the subject strongly denied his role in this case. “He was trying to be formal but paused and pressured responses reflected that he gave evasive and inappropriate responses on critical issues which indicated that he was trying to conceal relevant information regarding the incident. Several deceptive signs like improper eye contact, dryness of mouth, defensive attitude, and pressured and loud speech flow, denial tendency were observed by the examiner,” the report said.

The report further concluded, “On the basis of the forensic psychological assessment and behavioural analysis interview, it may be inferred that Mr Gaikwad appears deceptive in his statements related to telephonic conversation with Jyoti and Anjali. He has withheld information regarding the murder of Mr Pansare and persons involved in this case which would help in the investigation.”

The report suggested that precise opinion could be furnished if the subject is given further psychological tests such as polygraph examination.
