The University of Mumbai has failed to declare the results of 167 exams out of the total 465 exams it conducted in the first half of 2016 despite the expiry of the 45 day limit for declaring results, as stipulated by the high court. Yuva Sena activists held a protest against the same at the Kalina campus on Tuesday afternoon.
Braving the heavy downpour that lashed the suburbs on Tuesday afternoon around 50-60 activists of Yuva Sena gathered at the Kalina campus of the university demanding immediate declaration of results of exams that were held in April/May 2016. According to the activists, thousands of students most of whom were enrolled with the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), MU had been awaiting their results for more than two months.
“The university conducted a total of 465 exams in the first half of 2016 out of which the results of 165 exams are not yet declared. This has resulted in many students losing out in the form of giving up their jobs as they were unable to submit proof of their educational qualifications,” said Pradeep Sawant, a Yuva Sena member and former senator of MU. He further added, “Many other students wanting to pursue further education are now forced to take a drop of a year as most other universities both in India and abroad have closed admission for the academic year 2016-17. In such a scenario who is responsible for the students’ loss ”
He added that as the vice-chancellor Dr Sanjay Deshmukh was not doing anything to address the students’ issues.
Responding to the protests, a university spokesperson said that the university would try to declare the results within a week’s time. With regards to the administration not meeting the students’ organisations the spokesperson said that a joint meeting of all organisations would be held on August 2 and regular meetings would be held every two months to discuss the problems faced by students and other staff.
