While removing illegal constructions near the Tansa pipeline in Kurla (east), a mob attacked the BMC’s demolition squad, in which a civic employee from the M-West ward was injured severely on Friday. Due to this, the BMC had to halt the demolition drive temporarily.
The incident has again proved that BMC requires a dedicated police force to take action against illegal structures in the city, said MNS candidate Sandeep Deshpande.
In a notice of motion, MNS group leader Sandeep Deshpande a few months ago had said that a full-time police protection is needed in all 24 administrative wards so that it will help civic officials to act against unauthorised structures as well as other issues like illegal hoardings, water theft, electricity theft etc.
“To curb illegal structures, the state government should provide the BMC a full-time team of 50 policemen in each of administrative ward, which means that 24 wards will have 1,200 men. An IPS officer should be appointed to lead this force. Their expenses would be borne by the civic body,” said Mr Deshpande.
