The Mumbai police crime branch unit 10 has initiated an inquiry and found that the Gurgaon police did not follow protocol when its team shot dead a wanted gangster with a vast criminal record in a secret encounter at an Andheri (east) hotel on Sunday morning.
The Mumbai crime branch initiated an inquiry against the Gurgaon police, according to NHRC (National Human Rights Commission) guidelines. The Gurgaon police left three days ago via Jaipur and Gujarat and reached Mumbai by road.
Senior officials claimed that the Gurgaon police should have submitted an application to the local police. The former, however, claimed that it first informed the Mumbai control room followed by the Andheri police station where a senior police officer said that it could not help the Gurgaon police as the hotel was not under its jurisdiction. The Gurgaon police then approached the Sahar police but received the same answer, after which they conducted the operation on their own. The Mumbai crime branch officials are investigating these claims by taking the statements of the Andheri and Sahar police officials.
Further, the hotel owner-manager said they asked the Gurgaon police to call local police first but the Gurgaon police convinced them that they would inform the Mumbai police later. A senior official from the Mumbai police said, “When Gurgaon policemen entered the hotel, they informed the owner to evacuate the staff and customers immediately. Thereafter, the owner asked them about Mumbai police officials to which they replied that they had informed some of them and after the accused are arrested, they would inform all of them.”
Mumbai police PRO and crime branch DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni said, “We are taking statements of officials and we will soon submit the inquiry report.”
