Pregnant young doctor hangs herself to death
A 29-year-old doctor from Sion Hospital committed suicide by hanging herself from the bedroom ceiling fan of their house in Pratiksha Nagar. Dr Ashwini Manoj Patil, a MD in Pathology and four months pregnant, had a fight with her husband over some petty issue after which she took the extreme step. Wadala T.T. police investigating the case has not found any evidence of foul play until now.
Police officials said that while her husband, Manoj Patil (30), who is a neurosurgeon working with KEM Hospital, was on a call with some patient, she picked up a quarrel with him over not taking care of their three-year-old son who was crying.
According to a relative of Dr Ashwini, “She came from the hospital and started fighting with her husband over him not taking care of their three-year-old child. She then went into the bedroom and came out after three hours, again resuming fighting with her husband, this time over not picking up her phone call.
“Her father and in-laws, who were at home, tried to explain that the mobile phone was with their child who was playing and that they too did not hear it ringing,” she added.
“She went into the bedroom again and locked the door at around 11 pm. Her husband tried to get her to open the door but her father told him to wait for her to calm down. After waiting till 3 am, at around 3:30 am, they broke open the door only to find her hanging from the fan,” she said.
Senior police inspector of Wadala T.T., S.P. Kamble said, “She took the extreme step in a fit of anger. The couple had a love marriage six years ago and had lot of plans for their career and child. After she gave birth to their first child, their family would come home to take care of the son.”
A friend from Sion Hospital said, “Dr Ashwini was very bright and ambitious but was extremely frustrated since the past few days, handling her house, child and hospital work. We attributed her mood swings to her pregnancy and did not pay attention to her.”
