Six friends of late Pratyusha Banerjee, some of them actors themselves, have signed a plea demanding that their statement be recorded in her case. Lawyer Falguni Brahmbhatt, on behalf of Pratyusha’s family and friends, visited Bangur Nagar police station on Monday to present the letter to police and receive acknowledgement for it. The letter contains names and phone numbers of the six friends.
In their letter, the actor’s friends have said that they were close to Pratyusha and have things they want to share with the police so the police should call them to the station to record their statements.
They have also said that Pratyusha had called Leena Dias, a close friend and wedding planner by profession, at about 3 am on March 31, a day prior to her death, saying that she wanted to get out of her relationship with Rahul. The friends also said that Pratyusha had consulted a lawyer a few days ago about her relationship.
Reacting to Pratyusha’s boyfriend, Rahul Raj Singh’s father’s statement that “Pratyusha was running out of money”, Geeta Rajpal, also a wedding planner by profession, told The Asian Age, “She was earning well and even refused a few projects as she was planning to get married in the second or third week of April.” Ms Rajpal said that Pratyusha was earning well and on a recent trip to Goa, purchased items worth nearly Rs 60,000. She also claimed that Rahul used to assault Pratyusha in public and private so Pratyusha’s friends feared that her death was not a simple case of suicide but a case of murder. “Money can be a reason behind her death, as she was earning well. I feel she was killed for money,” said Ms Rajpal, while rubbishing reports about Pratyusha being pregnant and on drugs.
Meanwhile, Ms Brahmbhatt said that Pratyusha’s mother, Soma Banerjee, was under deep trauma and had informed the police that she was aware about the fights between Rahul and Pratyusha and had always sought to sort out things between them, asking them to focus on their careers instead.
