Pratyusha Banerjee suicide: Rahul’s condition improves, shifted to general ward
Rahul Raj Singh, boyfriend of Pratyusha Banerjee, has been shifted from the ICU to the general ward of Shri Sai Hospital at Kandivali (east), where he was admitted on Sunday morning. His condition is said to have improved and a psychiatrist and a counselor visited him on Monday afternoon.
Rahul was admitted to the hospital after complaining about chest pain and low blood pressure. On Saturday, the police had questioned him on the death of Pratyusha. Rahul’s blood pressure hasn’t improved so far.
Niraj Gupta, Rahul’s lawyer, commenting on the incident, told The Asian Age, “He got ill because he had not been eating anything since Pratyusha’s death, which was a huge setback and he has suffered deep trauma and is in depression. Doctors have sedated him.” Mr Gupta further added that Rahul was crying a lot on Sunday, saying, “Baby, why did you leave me”, while on Monday he was in shock and was not speaking much.
Dr Santosh Goyal, head of the hospital, while issuing Rahul’s medical bulletin, said, “He is slightly better than before, but he cried the whole day on Monday, and refused to eat anything. According to the doctor, Rahul’s condition had improved, but he was not in a position to give a statement to the police. “He is talking in a weird manner, and saying “I want to die”,” said Dr Goyal.
Meanwhile, police sources said Rahul had not been given a clean chit and he was going to be questioned in the near future. According to officials, the post-mortem has ruled out the possibility of murder, and the police suspects that money was the reason behind her death as she was not getting work properly, and was depressed.
Also, according to the sources, the report has confirmed that Pratyusha wasn’t hanged after being killed, and she died due to suffocation.
Officials are scanning the bank account details of Pratyusha and Rahul to know what kind of role money played in the case.
Officials also said it could possibly be a case of abetment to suicide and Rahul could be the reason. When asked about the application submitted to the police by friends of Pratyusha, the police said, “We have received the application and after her parents complain to us, we will register a case of abetment.” According to sources, they came to know about a previous housemaid of Pratyusha’s who had informed her current employers that she had attempted suicide twice earlier.
