On Tuesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) lawyer Trupti Puranik submitted an affidavit, which stated that the civic body had appointed Frischman Prabhu Pvt. Ltd. as consultant to work out the various options for stopping ingress of sewage water in the lake, suitable treatment option and also for beautification.
The BMC further stated that they would start the work of rejuvenation on April 2017 and complete it by February 2019, of which, de-silting of the lake would start on April 2017 and completed by March 2018. Plantation work around the periphery of the lake will begin on April 2017 and will be completed by September 2017.
A division bench headed by Justice of V.M. Kanade and Justice A.A. Sayed was hearing petition filed by activist Shiv Shankar Joshi who alleged the Powai Lake had turned into a large gutter where all the waste material was being dumped.
The petition further stated that the lake was surrounded by a thick forest cover which has now vanished as the area has been turned into commercial plots.
