A day after the Union Cabinet’s expansion, Shiv Sena took pot shots at its ally BJP, saying that it is difficult these days to find people of the same calibre as those who had served in the ministries of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
“Modi is the lone face of this government. Compared to this government, the governments of Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru had some excellent Cabinet ministers like Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, Babu Jagjivan Ram, Yashwantrao Chavan, Shankarrao Chavan,” the Sena said in an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana.
“The HRD ministry got its name only because of P.V. Narsimharao. The world got to know that India has a finance minister who works, only because of Dr Manmohan Singh. Leaders of such stature cannot be born again. In such a scenario, Modi has no option but to take complete responsibility of his Cabinet,” it said.
It further said that Tuesday’s expansion was not about the allies of the National Democratic Alliance but of the BJP alone and parties like the Sena, Akali Dal and TDP — all part of the NDA — should not feel bad about not being included in the Cabinet. “Today the BJP has a majority and thus they can do what they wish to,” it said.
