Political hoardings put up during Navratri: PIL
The Bombay high court on Thursday was informed that despite its order, a number of illegal political hoardings were put up in various areas of the city during Navratri, following which the court asked for further details of where they had been put up.
Social activist Bhagwanji Rayani produced photographs before the division bench of Justice A.S. Oka and V.L. Achliya to show that politicians in violation of court orders put up hoardings.
However, after examining the photographs the bench asked the petitioner to file an affidavit with details of which photograph was taken in which area. “It would be difficult for BMC officers to find these hoardings without details of location,” said the bench. It also said, “File an affidavit identifying the locations so that we can ask them (BMC officials) to take actions.”
Meanwhile, the court took on record an apology tendered by the NCP for putting up hoardings. The bench however also observed that despite the court earlier asking political parties to publish advertisements in newspapers asking its party workers to restrain from putting up illegal hoardings, why it was not followed.
The court was hearing two different public interest litigations filed seeking to free the state from illegal hoardings. During the hearing, advocate Uday Warunjikar said that the petitioner’s claim was right and many illegal hoardings were put up at various places.
