Police Commissioner reaches out to Twitterati in special half-hour session
In a well-received move, Mumbai commissioner of police Ahmad Javed held a live tweeting session on Friday. Citizens were invited to tweet their concerns to the commissioner during the half-an-hour session using the social networking tool.
The commissioner, who tweets under the handle @CPMumbaiPolice created a special hashtag for the session called #ChatwithCP. From 4 pm citizens could communicate with Mr Javed, who stayed online for half an hour.
The issues tweeted to the commissioner ranged from safety issues faced by women and senior citizens, complaints about the traffic police website, working of CCTVs in police stations and hesitancy to approach police officers.
The lively session garnered a successful response with as many as 50 members of the public tweeting to the commissioner in the first ten minutes.
One of the first to tweet was @JAYNISHSHAH1 who asked the commissioner about harassment of citizens by police officers. He tweeted, ‘Why do officers harass at police station in the name of investigation...’ To this Mr Javed informed Mr Shah about an open house held at all police stations to update citizens about cases and address their complaints in front of senior officers.
The commissioner also informed Twitterati about women protection phone numbers and said women should be alert whenever they are out alone.
There were many tweets appreciating the move.
