The Samta Nagar police has arrested a 23-year-old man for duping a duo of Rs 4 lakh by promising to secure them overseas jobs in merchant shipping. Vivek Singh, the accused, gave them fake visas and passport two times, after which the duo approached the police. Besides arresting Singh, the police is on the lookout for two more persons who helped the agent in preparing the fake documentation.

The complainants, Arun Tiwari and Sonu Sharma, both 26, were interested in working in merchant shipping. They had approached Vivek Singh in July, 2014 and had assured he would provide them jobs, the police said.

Singh charged Rs 2 lakh each from Mr Sharma and Mr Tiwari and promised to get them relevant documents from Delhi for the duo’s employment and overseas journey.

After getting their visas to the UAA and employment contract letters, the duo on December 3, 2014 flew to Sharjah on an Air Arabia airline. However, on reaching Sharjah airport, immigration officials informed them that their visas were fake and advised them to return to India or face jail in the UAE.

According to Mr Tiwari, “We were very frightened so we returned to India immediately, and again met up with Singh who told us he would get us proper documentation this time. In March, 2015 when we constantly pressurised Singh, he again gave us a work contract letters and visas. But, this time we approached the UAE embassy, which informed us that our visas were fake. So, we again approached Singh in his office in at Narsipada in Kandivali (east) and asked him to return our money but he said he spent the money on documentation. After this we realised he had fooled us and approached the police.”

According to a senior official of Samta Nagar police station, the duo spotted Singh in Kandivali (east) on November 14 and brought him to the police. Singh, who is booked on charges of cheating, has told the police that he got the fake documents from two persons staying in Gurgaon. The police is planning to send its teams in search of them, a source said.
