The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) being the nodal agency for constructing homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the state have taken cognisance of private developers coming out with advertisements in newspapers promising low cost houses under the same scheme.

The Mhada said the builders did not have any approvals from it for PMAY.

This comes in the backdrop of a private developer from Pune aggressively publishing advertisements in newspapers promising a 1BHK apartment at Rs 5 lakh. The developers have published the advertisements and have also used the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the advertisements.

“We are the nodal agency for PMAY in the state and have taken cognisance of these advertisements that are mentioning PMAY. I have directed Mhada officials in Pune to take action against the particular developer from Pune. The Mhada has not yet started any project under PMAY and nor has it roped in any private developer for the same and any approvals would have to go through a proper committee of the PMAY which is headed by the state chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya,-" said S.S. Zende, chief executive officer, Mhada.

According to Mhada officials it has got a proposal from only one private developer from Boisar in Thane district.
