Hitting back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mumbai Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, Sanjay Nirupam, while addressing a rally on Saturday, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using the National Herald issue as vendetta politics against Congress president Sonia and her son Rahul Gandhi.
Mr Nirupam said, “Though the matter is an ongoing process in the court, it is the BJP who is raising the issue in the Lok Sabha. It is the style of the BJP.”
“National Herald registered in the name of Associated Journals Limited (AJL)’s total debt of '90 crore was to be repaid and that is the reason behind forming Young Indian Limited (YIL). What is wrong in that There is no law that prevents any political party from saving its organisation by paying its debt,” he added.
Mr Nirupam further said, “Instead of concentrating on the development of the nation as promised by them they are doing vendetta politics to silence the Opposition. The then-Enforcement Directorate’s director Rajan Katoch had given clean chit to Congress leaders in the National Herald case, but as soon as Mr Katoch gave us a clean chit, he was transferred within two days and a new director was appointed on the orders of Mr Modi and later the case was re opened.”
In August 2015, Mr Katoch was removed from service after he chose to close the case.
