Complaint against Kapil Sharma for destroying mangroves

Kapil Sharma’s tweet, alleging that a civic official demanded bribe from him, has done him more harm than good. A RTI activist on Saturday filed a complaint against Mr Sharma at Versova police station, demanding action against Sharma for allegedly destroying mangroves while constructing his office.
RTI activist Asad Patel filed the complaint after Mr Sharma’s allegations against the BMC were aired over television news channels. In his complaint, Mr Patel stated, “No action has been taken against Sharma and his hirelings for illegal construction, encroachment, illegal eco-destruction, destruction and theft of mangroves and debris dumping.”
Mr Patel added that after watching the reports, he visited Mr Sharma’s house and office premises in Andheri to check for himself whether the mangroves had been destroyed. “From the gate itself, I could see that the place was encroached upon and illegally occupied, and the mangroves destroyed by Sharma and his hirelings. The place was full of mangroves and anyone could see that in the encroached space, mangroves had been destroyed and debris dumped,” his complaint read.
Mr Patel appealed that action be taken against Sharma under the Indian Penal Code, Forest Act, Environment Protection Act and Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act. When contacted, Versova police station confirmed having received the complaint but said a FIR was yet to be registered. They said that appropriate action would be taken after investigation.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Ram Kadam, threatened to protest outside Mr Sharma’s residence if the comedian did not reveal the name of the civic official who demanded a bribe from him.
“Sharma should reveal the name in the next 24 hours in the interest of the nation. If not, he should tell us who is pressurising or stopping him from revealing the names of those who took bribes from BMC,” he said.
