The Mumbai division of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has lodged a complaint with the Belapur cyber cell after receiving information that the book-keeping paper of the commerce stream in the ongoing HSC exam being circulated over a social networking application a few minutes before the scheduled 11 am start time. While board officials confirmed that the question paper circulated on WhatsApp was the one issued by the board, confirmation of whether it was leaked could only be possible after the cyber cell ascertained the time when it was leaked.
According to Dattatray Jagtap, Mumbai division chairman of MSBSHSE, on Friday morning the board helpline received a call from an exam conductor at Mira Road about apprehending a student with a copy of the question paper on his mobile phone at 10.58 am. “We immediately got in touch with the cyber cell and gave them the details of the student and the exam centre where he was apprehended. The cyber cell has confiscated the mobile and are investigating as to when and from where the student received the question paper,” said Mr Jagtap.
A senior board official added, “Students get question papers 15 minutes before the scheduled time. It is possible that someone clicked a photo of the question paper and sent it to others over WhatsApp,” said the official.
