Pansare kin: Don’t transfer officer

Medha Pansare, the daughter-in-law of rationalist and CPI leader Govind Pansare, who was shot dead last year, has demanded the cancellation of the transfer order of the murder case’s investigating officer inspector Amrit Deshmukh. Ms Pansare argued that his transfer would derail the investigation, which has already been proceeding at snail’s pace.
Pansare (82) and his wife Uma, were shot at by two unidentified persons on February 16 last year near their house in Kolhapur. He died four days later at a hospital in Mumbai, while his wife survived the attack. An activist of right-wing group Sanatan Sanstha, Samir Gaikwad, was arrested on September 16 from Sangli in connection with the murder.
Ms Pansare met inspector general of Kolhapur Range, Prakash Mutnyal on Thursday and requested him to cancel the transfer order of inspector Deshmukh, attached to Rajarampuri police station in Kolhapur. “The IG has assured that he would give serious thought to my request,” she said.
She further said that though the family was not happy at the way the investigation is happening, they also think that the transfer of the investigating officer will have adverse impact on the investigation.
“Therefore, Mr Deshmukh should be posted at the same police station till the completion of the case,” Ms Pansare said. She said she has also written to the district superintendent of police seeking cancellation of the transfer.
She alleged that the move could be foul play by the higher authorities in the police. “We are not satisfied with the pace of investigation, especially in the last few months,” she said.
