The suicide of 46-year-old Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) senior engineer has raised questions about excessive workload in the corporation.

The suicide of 46-year-old Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) senior engineer has raised questions about excessive workload in the corporation. The family of the engineer, Dattatray Mastud, has claimed that he had been asking his seniors for leave for several days, but his requests had been turned down repeatedly.

Mastud committed suicide at home by hanging himself from a fan on Monday night after he had returned from his office. According to police officials, Mastud’s 18-year-old son wrote in his statement that his father was suffering from work-related stress and he had wanted some relief from work because he was suffering from throat cancer.”

The police said, “Mastud came back home on Monday, had food at around 9:30 pm and told his family not to disturb him for some time as he wanted to sleep alone in the room. After this, his wife and son didn’t disturb him. On Tuesday morning, at around 7 am, Mastud’s wife went to wake him up for office. She got scared and called her son after he didn’t open the door. They then broke open the door and saw Mastud hanging from the fan. Doctors declared him dead before admission.”

The Anti-Corruption Bureau had arrested Mastud last year along with a corporator while allegedly accepting bribe. Later, the police came to learn he had seven illegal flats in Mumbai.
