Online admissions for degree colleges to start June 14
The much-awaited Pre-Admission Online Registration (PAOR) of the University of Mumbai will start on June 14 on the university website.
The much-awaited Pre-Admission Online Registration (PAOR) of the University of Mumbai will start on June 14 on the university website. The system introduced by the university in 2014 is a prerequisite for admission to under graduate courses in affiliated colleges of the university.
The process has seen an inadvertent delay as the university had not appointed a vendor for the same, as a result of which the process is getting underway almost 22 days after the HSC results were declared.
According to the university guidelines, students have to register on the website, after which they will be assigned a unique registration number.
“The next step is to apply for admission in the desired college and submit a copy of the online registration along with the admission form. The rule applies to in-house students as well and admissions will not be granted unless the student has completed the online registration process,” said a university official while explaining the process.
Further explaining the usefulness of the process, Leeladhar Bansod, deputy registrar, MU, said, “The Permanent Registration Number (PRN) will help university expedite the process of checking the eligibility of students as well as maintain a database of students studying in affiliated colleges. This will also contribute towards issuing of hall tickets and declaration of results.”
Last year, the university had conducted the PAOR over an extended period as many students had applied for different courses.
“Students have to apply afresh for a PRN each time they want to apply for a different course. The registration process also allows the university to streamline the process and know exactly how many students are enrolled in the different courses being offered by its departments and affiliated colleges,” said Mr Bansod.
Explaining the cause for delay in the PAOR, an official of the university said, “Till last year, the process was handled by the Maharashtra Knowledge Commission Limited. But this year, the process has been assigned to a private contractor through a competitive bidding process and hence the delay. The process will start on June 14 and will continue till June 21,” said the official.
