One accused in double murder case a minor
One accused in the Kandivali double murder case of artist Hema Upadhyay and her advocate Haresh Bhambhani turned out to be a minor and has been sent to a juvenile home in Dongri from Thane prison, where he was lodged with other accused in the case. The juvenile court has remanded him till March15.
Earlier on February 22, his lawyers Khurshid Ansari and Ravi Yadav had applied to the Borivali Metropolitan Magistrate Court, saying that their client is a minor (The Asian Age has access to this application) as his date of birth is April 10, 1999, and hence, be transferred to a juvenile home. “At the time of occurrence of the alleged offence, the applicant was 16 years and eight months old,” read the application. The lawyers alleged that the police had not mentioned the applicant’s correct age.
In reply to their application, the investigation agency on Wednesday informed the Metropolitan Magistrate Court that one of the five accused in the double murder case is a minor. The same day, a report was submitted by the police in court, informing the court that the verification process has been done and one accused has turned out to be a minor. After the juvenile court remanded the minor accused till March 15, he was sent to Dongri juvenile home.
