A police team from Bhubaneshwar police will be travelling to Pune in order to interrogate Sanjiv Mishra, whose hoax call to Bhubaneshwar airport forced a Mumbai-bound flight to make an emergency landing in Nagpur.

Mishra was arrested in Pune on Saturday while he was on his way to Solapur from Mumbai. He is still in the custody of Pune police. According to the sources, the Bhubaneswar police is planning to take him to Odisha on a remand for further questioning. The Mumbai police has, however, not decided anything on Mishra’s remand yet. Commenting on it, a senior official told The Asian Age that Mishra was detained after he made his first call on Friday but he was released immediately after checking the medical documents that stated that he was mentally unstable. “After that he made another threat call to the Mumbai airport on Saturday but we have not received any written complaint about this yet,” said the official.

Another senior official, under condition of anonymity told this newspaper that on January 22 afternoon, Mishra was roaming near the parking area of the domestic airport when he suddenly started shouting at a traffic police officer, who asked him to move away from the road. After this, the officer took him to the nearest domestic airport police station. While Mishra was made to wait at the station, he called the police help line number (100) and warned them against a car near the airport that was allegedly carrying explosives.

Later, helpline officials tracked his number to the police station. By this time, Mishra’s friend, who had been looking for him, reached the police station and produced Mishra’s medical documents that declared him as being unsound of mind. This led to his release.

Mishra then started travelling towards Solapur, in his car, and made hoax calls to airports in Bagdogra, Mumbai, Delhi and Bhubaneswar along with the Pune railway station.
