Now, Suresh Prabhu takes a local train down memory lane

It isn’t often that you see a public figure using public transport like the rest of us.

It isn’t often that you see a public figure using public transport like the rest of us. However, that’s exactly what happened on Friday when Union Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu, who is currently in Mumbai, decided to travel by train from Khar to Vile Parle.

Mr Prabhu used to live in Khar before he shifted to the national capital after being elected minister, and was overheard saying that the journey reminded him of his younger days.

“It feels very different and good at the same time, travelling on a line that I used to as a teenager. I think I miss this about the city; I haven’t travelled on this route particularly, for a very long time,” said a nostalgic Mr Prabhu.

Mr Prabhu was then in conversation with to BJP MP Poonam Mahajan, who was also on the same train. The conversation centred on the health of Mr Prabhu’s one-year-old dog and his recently concluded birthday celebrations. “My wife, Uma, got him all kinds of clothes that you get for dogs nowadays and dressed him up for the occasion. It was really nice; she was very enthusiastic,” the minister told Ms Mahajan.

Later, addressing the public at Vile Parle, he said, “I know so many people here and even though stations like Khar and Vile Parle are not very big and are not counted in the A or A1 category, they mean a lot to me because I have my roots here and in the people here.”
