A contempt notice has been served to ex-chairperson, Airports Authority of India (AAI); Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation; and officials of AAI at Mumbai, including regional executive director, GM (Aerodromes), Airport Director (Juhu airport), and a few others for not following the court’s previous order in connection with revoking suspension of Joint GM, ATC of Juhu Airport.
The Bombay high court had earlier granted relief to a whistleblower couple, K.S. Lakshminarasimhan and his wife S. Mangla, employed with AAI, by allowing the husband to make a fresh representation to higher authorities against his suspension. Following the order, Mr Lakshminarasimhan sent his representation by email on April 6 to S. Raheja, member (planning), AAI, holding the additional charge of Chairman, AAI, and also by speed post the same day. However Mr Raheja failed to respond, the notice alleged.
The couple said Mr Lakshminarasimhan was suspended for appearing in the high court along with his wife in a public interest litigation (PIL) filed against AAI among others, for alleged violation of safety rules by AAI due to permission given by AAI for excessive heights to high-rise buildings in the vicinity of airports.
